The Oakland Press, June 8, 2008:
The race has already been filled with twists. Richard Kuhn Sr., a 78-year-old longtime circuit judge, filed his candidacy paperwork minutes before the filing deadline. The Family Rights Coalition said Kuhn, who retired more than three years ago, was ineligible to run according to the state constitution because he sat on the bench within the last year as a visiting judge. After the county elections division said Kuhn's name could remain on the ballot, Leib filed a lawsuit against the Oakland County Clerk's Office.
Oakland Circuit Judge Daniel O'Brien ruled that Kuhn is ineligible to run. Kuhn unsuccessfully appealed to the state's court of appeals and then to the Michigan Supreme Court, which ruled against him Friday.
