Competitively selected into program as freshman and again as junior based upon quality of thesis proposal. Final project analyzed data using meta-analysis and non-linear modeling. Thesis argued that the effect of military expenditure upon a nation’s economic growth was “curvilinearly-related” to its level of development. “Advanced Industrialized” nations and agriculturally-based “Third World” nations may experience more negative effects than “newly industrializing” nations, which may in fact benefit from military utilization of unused capacity. The model developed in thesis was recently cited in a professional academic “white paper” by the Atlas Foundation.
